What is the radial acceleration of the earth toward the sun?

The radius of the earth's orbit around the sun (assumed to be circular) is 1.50 x 10^8 km, and the earth travels around this orbit in 365 days.

  1. The radial acceleration is given by m*a = m*v^2/r where m is the mass of the earth (not needed), v the velocity and r the radius. v is given by v=2*pi*r/T where T is 365 days.

If you do the work, you will find that v= 30km/s (rounded off) and a = 6*10^-3 m/s^2
