Earthed

Do you think scientists will discover another planet that is liveable to humans?

Do you think scientists will discover another planet in are lifetime that is liveable to humans, an earth-like planet that looks exactly like earth? And would you move there?

Public Comments

  1. Livable, yes. Exactly like Earth, unlikely (atmosphere, oceans, continents, etc. likely to be different). Would I move there? Yes, I'd be first in line to go.
  2. Actually they have. But it is not exactly like earth right now, It is alot colder, it is one of the moons I believe of Saturn called Europa. It is believed to have liquid water on it. It would be like living on the poles of earth.
  3. They may discover one, the odds are good. Getting there is another story.
  4. No. Humans require a planet with pretty much exactly the same biochemistry as this one. Not just a good mix of gasses to breathe, you need the right amino acids and vitamins and other subtle qualities. So a planet might look quite inviting, but the odds are seriously against our being able to live there. Unless you are planning to eat canned Spam for the years it would take to develop agriculture using earth plants. And would earth plants survive in an alien environment? I suspect not.
  5. An Eart-like planet discovered in our lifetime, yes. Will it look "exactly" like Earth, highly improbable. No, I wouldn't move there, due to the fact that with current space travel technology it would take hundreds (if not thousands) of generations to make the journey.

I hope this helps. Good luck.
  6. Earth is positioned perfectly in our solar system, neither too

close to the sun and not too far. Our atmosphere shields

us from harmful radiation and our ecosystem sustains

both atmosphere and life. Even though planets with similar

enviroments may be found the right ingredients to sustain

life must be present and in abundance for humans to inhabit.

I doubt I will ever see such a place found if one does exist

but possibilities are always endless. I think I will stay where

I'm at if one is found though, moving expenses would kill me!
  7. I think so , i know Geoff Marcy and others who are planet hunters I met up with and after seeing all their studies I say yes . Actually there was already one

    Earth-like found ..
