Apes Questions
What is the correct view on evolution? Did we evolve from apes, or share a common ancestor? I'm asking this question because I always saw that picture of the ape, then the somewhat evolved ape, and all the way up to a standing, walking human. I heard top evolutionists like Dawkins say that every creature alive today is fully evolved, and we didnt come directly from apes, but instead we share a common ancestor. (Such as that apes we see today have evolved from a lower form). If this is true, then would that picture of the ape evolving into a human be incorrect? Thanks for your answers.
What is the differnece between primates, apes and monkeys? I always knew that primates means our closest living relatives, right? But then when I think about it, gorilla are one of our closest living relatives but they are also clasified as apes, right? So what is the differnece between primates, apes and monkeys?
Where would I start planning a pilgrimage to Africa to see the great apes? I have been a fan of apes & monkeys for many years, thanks in large part to Dianne Fosse and Jane Goodall. I have always wanted to travel to Africa to see them in their own habitat, along with spending time with the people. I would really enjoy learning about their culture and their views on things. Thanks for your help!
If we share a common ancestor with apes then how do you explain? I am wondering this little fact. Since evolutions supporters say that we share a common ancestor with apes then how do they explain the fact that human DNA is so similar to that of dirt. The Bible says that God created us from the ground, so it would stand to reason that our DNA would be very similar to dirt. And when I began doing research on this issue I found that our DNA is in fact very similar to dirt and that evolution supporters are covering up this fact.
How do apes and monkeys differ? Did you know that apes and monkeys are two different things?? What are a few physical features where apes and monkeys differ? And what are advantages or disadvantages to these different features?
Where can I buy rubber mulch like the stuff in the Absolutely Apes exhibit at the San Diego Zoo? The Absolutely Apes exhibit at the San Diego Zoo has this really cool rubber mulch. It isn't the loose stuff that is commonly available, but is all sort of "glued" together. It is nice and spongy, you can walk on it in bare feet, and because it is all glued together, it stays where you want it. Anyway, does anyone know where to get this stuff? Disneyland has the exact same stuff in a playgroud in Toontown. This link is loose rubber mulch. It is not glued down and hurts to walk on: http://www.americanrubber.com/mulch/
Why are there no great apes in South America? Gorillas, chimps, and bonobos are found across equatorial Africa while orangutans are found in equatorial Asia(Indonesia and Malaysia). Why aren't there any great apes in equatorial South America? Have there ever been great apes in South America?
What are the "red apes" and how many were sighted? We are hunting the elusive "red apes" that have been sighted in these parts. We haven't had any luck yet. Suddenly, in the forest, there's one! Soon lots of our coveted objects pop out. Then they vanish again. And there aren't anyvisible. Finally, as we leave we see a shy pair hiding in the woods.
where can I find a zoo that has great apes within 200 miles of NYC? Hi, I am an avid great ape enthusiast (Chimps, Bonobos, Orangutans, and Gorillas), and I would love to actually see some of these apes in person, specifically chimps. I live in the NYC area, and the only apes around here are gorillas, at the bronx zoo. Where can I find a zoo with chimps and/or orangutans in NY, NJ, CT, PA, or MD?
What gives humans the ability to talk and not apes? As apes are the closest creature to a human why can't they 'talk'? Parrots can, so what do humans and parrots have that apes don't? baz: I do not think that humans are more intelligent etc. When I say 'talk' I mean the way a human 'talks'. All animals can 'talk' in there own way, by useing there voice by mieowing, barking, growling, purring, quacking etc and by useing body language. My question basically is why can't apes )being our (humans) closest relitive) not be able to speak the way we do? What is different about human beings that gives us this ability?
How many chromosomes do the apes have? I know that humans have 46 and chimps have 48. What about Gorillas and orangutans? Also if you know about old world or new world monkeys that would be helpful too!

What species of mammals are closest genetically to human beings after the great apes and other primates? As I understand it humans are most closely related to chimpanzees and then gorillas, orang utangs, gibbons, baboons, monkeys, lemurs and other small primates in more or less that order. In the mammalian genetic framework what comes next? After primates what is the relationship to say, rodents, canids, felines etc...Has a genetic-dna family tree of mammals been constructed? Thanks for the really intelligent and scientific answers so far....

do white people think us africans look like apes? I am not trying to start an internet argument, but everywhere i look i hear an African being compared to an ape. Historically it has been taught that white is the more attractive human being while broad noses and lips are the least desired. Melan is a rich substance that protects against the sun and gives us the beautiful black complexion. "Nappy" hair is also a substance that plays a protective role against lice. Apes have straight hair.
what is the relativity between humans and apes? i'm doing a research project saying that apes are entitled to some basic rights so i was wondering how close are they actually? any suggestions or websites would help alot and i would most of all appreciate it! thanks :)

should I take a third year of spanish or APES? If I took APES I could get an AP national honors award, but if I took spanish, that would give me 3 consecutive years of spanish. Which should I take? I should add that APES would probably be easier for me than spanish and the only problem is what colleges want to see more- 3 years of spanish (I could take spanish senior year anyways) or an AP national honor award.
